Ages 2-6 (Early Childhood Creative Development)
At these ages, children are just learning how to be creative. I work with young children by using arts and crafts as a tool to help prepare them for kindergarten. Subjects required for kindergarten include: Motor Skills, Shapes and Colors, Literacy, Social-Emotional Development, and Cognitive Development. I choose open-ended arts and crafts rather than instructional, because while guided projects may help to develop listening skills, open-ended activities allow children to discover alternate solutions to a problem.
Ages 7-13 (Art and Creative Development)
This age range may be somewhere between continuing to develop creativity and showing signs of high creativity. With children who show signs of high creativity, it's important not to mistaken it for simply having bad behavior. Often, children with highly creative minds get bored with school and may not be receiving the challenges they crave. With this age range, I teach more advanced arts and crafts activities along with basic drawing and paint skills if the child is interested in the visual arts.Signs of highly creative children:
1) Challenges authority or assumptions
2) Often bored by simply following directions
3) Works independently
4) Dares to be different
5) Playful and has a sense of humor
6) Willing to takes risks and experiment
7) Has a preference for complexity
Ages 14-18 (Art Tutoring / Talent Development)
Many high school students are already looking into the visual arts as a possible career choice. These students love to draw in his/her spare time, may be involved in other arts such as music, and often introverted. With this age range, instead of focusing on arts and crafts, I focus more on preparing the student for continuing education in the visual arts. Many high schools do not offer advanced art classes. An art tutor is an excellent solution so that the student may learn the basics of drawing and painting, the Elements of Art, the Principles of Design, and increasing his/her observational skills. I also offer to help the student create an art portfolio required many art schools.* With high school students, my lessons are more structured and reflect the similar lessons taught to me while I attended a four year art program designed to prepare me for art college. Students learn what it truly means to be an artist.Other Services Offered
- Illustration for children available for commission and purchase.
- Wall murals for businesses or private homes.
- Group arts and crafts activities.

*While working with your student may increase his/her chance to be accepted into an art college or program, much of it depends on the student's individual talents and willingness to learn. Acceptance into a college level art program is not guaranteed.
***Please note that these lessons are not designed to be art therapy for children with diagnosed behavioral issues.
